ZOMETA in Advanced Cancers

Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC)

With extended survival in advanced RCC, treatment goals are changing1

Bone metastases are a major concern for patients with advanced RCC2,3

  • 20% to 25% of patients with advanced RCC develop bone metastases,* which may lead to bone complications or skeletal-related events (SREs)2†
  • A clinical trial demonstrated that without treatment with a bone-targeted agent3
    • 74% of patients with RCC and bone metastases experienced an SRE within 9 months of follow-up
    • SRE frequency was approximately every 4 months

*Incidence at autopsy.
SREs are generally defined as pathological fractures, spinal cord compression, radiation or surgery to bone, or tumour-induced hypercalcaemia.4

As new treatments extend survival, patients with advanced RCC are more likely to experience debilitating SREs1,5

Time to first SRE vs. median survival: advanced RCC

Median time to first SRE for patients treated with placebo in a clinical trial.
§Median overall survival for patients treated with sunitinib.
